Ironman Event

 

The third Staffordshire IRONMAN event will be taking place on Sunday 18 June 2017. Temporary road closures will be in place across the county on race day to ensure the safety of the athletes and the wider public.

IRONMAN 70.3 Staffordshire consists of:

  • a 1.2 mile swim in Chasewater reservoir

  • a 56 mile bike course through the countryside outside of Lichfield, Burton-upon-Trent, and across Cannock Chase

  • a 13.1 mile run that will start and finish at the Shugborough Country Estate.

The route will follow this order:

(From Etching Hill Road on to) Shooting Butts Road  --> (Right turn on to) Penkridge Bank Road --> (left turn on to) Birches Valley--> (right left on to) Marquis Drive (as far as the Visitor Centre then turning back, heading towards the White House) --> (Right turn on to) Penkridge Bank Road --> (left turn on to) Stafford Brook Road (and on to Bower Lane).

The IRONMAN organisers have advised that they will be sending out information to residents and businesses located on the route about road closures that will be taking place on the day.

Road closure times across Cannock Chase: 8:30am – 2:30pm

The bike course passes through Cannock Chase. Access to the Cannock Chase Forest recreation area will be available throughout the day from Penkridge Bank. During the above times, residents should prepare for extended travel time and alternative routes.
